When you put a Troiano truck on the road, our customers expect it to show up. That has been the deal since 1976, and it is the deal we work to honor every single day.
To keep that promise as our fleet grows, we recently invested in a new technology partnership with Tensor Planet, a national AI company that builds predictive maintenance tools for commercial fleets. The results have been strong enough that Tensor Planet recently featured our work together in a national customer case study. We are proud of the recognition, but the real story is what it means for the people we serve.
The Question That Started It
We have always run a strong preventive maintenance program. But certain issues kept showing up, especially in our exhaust systems. Filters would clog. Trucks would have to come off the road with little notice. Routes would have to be reshuffled, technicians would scramble, and somewhere down the line, a customer might wonder why their pickup ran late.
We did not like that. So we asked ourselves the question that drives most of what we do around here. How can we get ahead of this, instead of reacting to it?
A Better Way to Stay Ahead
That question led us to predictive maintenance. After evaluating our options, we partnered with Tensor Planet to bring AI-powered predictive maintenance into our shop. Their system reads the data our trucks are already generating and flags potential issues days or even weeks before they would cause a breakdown. It fits into the way our shop already works. No new hardware. No added steps for our team. Just earlier and better information.
What that means in practice is simple. Instead of pulling a truck off the road in the middle of a route, we catch the problem ahead of time and fix it during scheduled maintenance. The truck stays in service. The route stays on schedule. The customer never knows there was an issue, because there wasn’t one.
The Results, in Plain Numbers
In the first ten weeks of the program, exhaust-related repairs dropped by 41 percent. We prevented several service disruptions every single week. Our technicians had more time to focus on planned work instead of emergencies. And our drivers spent more time on their routes and less time waiting on repairs.
For our customers, that translates to one thing: more reliable service.
Cleaner Trucks, Cleaner Communities
There is one more piece of this worth mentioning. The exhaust systems we are catching problems in are the same systems that keep our trucks running cleanly. When they fail, trucks run dirtier. When we keep them healthy, our fleet runs closer to peak efficiency every day, with better fuel economy and lower emissions on every route.
We live and work in the same communities we serve. Running a cleaner fleet is not a marketing line for us. It is part of the job.
Why We Keep Looking for What’s Next
We are already extending predictive maintenance into other parts of our fleet, including engine and cooling systems. We will keep going. Because the truth is, the technology is not really the point. The point is the standard. The point is the customer who counts on us to be there, on time, week after week, year after year.
That standard is why we made the investment in the first place. It is why Tensor Planet wrote a case study about the results. And it is why we will keep finding new ways to honor the promise we made to Southern Maine almost fifty years ago.
Show up. Do the job right. Earn the trust every single time.
